Arts Demonstration
Ryerson Polytechnic University (Toronto, Ontario)
Saturday July 3, 1999
In celebration of Kimeda Sensei's 35 Anniversary in
Canada, AYC hosted a Japanese Martial Arts Demonstration on Saturday July 3, 1999. This
event took place at Ryerson Polytechnic University in Toronto, Ontario. The demonstration
began with an outstanding performance by the Yakudo Japanese Drum Group. This was followed
by a special presentation from Mr. Sid Ikeda, President of the Japanese Canadian Cultural
Centre, who presented Kimeda Sensei with a "Cranes" National Tribute dedication,
made on behalf of the AYC students.

The Aikido demonstration started
with T. Chida Shihan (8th Dan, Chief Instructor of the Aikido Yoshinkan World Headquarters
in Tokyo, Japan), who is featured in the following video clips. The Aikidodoka taking
ukemi for Chida Shihan are: Robert Mustard (Clips 1, 2 and 3), Nic Mills (Clips 4, 5 and
6), and Nick Kilislian (Clip 7).

Kimeda Sensei, 8th Dan
The demonstration concluded with Kimeda Sensei
(featured in the video clips below) explaining the basic fundamental principles of
Yoshinkan Aikido and demonstrating various techniques. The Aikidodoka taking ukemi for
Kimeda Sensei are : Roy Tjahja (Clips 1 and 9), Paul Gagliano (Clips 2, 8 and 9), and
James Lau (Clips 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9).
