Welcome
to
Aikido Yoshinkai Burnaby
Choosing
a martial arts school or style that suits your own personal criteria is
essential but it can be a daunting decision. Everyone has their own
reasons for wanting to learn a martial art so naturally
everyone’s
requirements and expectations will vary. Browsing
through our website should
provide you with a good understanding of what Aikido Yoshinkai Burnaby
offers its students. If it sounds like it suits you, I’d love to hear
from you and I ask that you don’t hesitate to contact me, Robert
Mustard (Chief Instructor), to answer any lingering questions, or to
arrange to visit as a guest and watch or even participate in a class.
Aikido Yoshinkai Burnaby is a martial arts school for the whole
family. Adult men and women will benefit from expert guidance as they
learn powerful defensive techniques in a strictly focused, yet
supportive and friendly environment. Kids will have a lot of fun while
learning a very valuable set of life skills including self-confidence,
self-respect, self-discipline, respect for others, classroom focus,
and of course responsible camaraderie. All that in addition to a vast
array of very effective defensive martial techniques.
Students are not taught fighting, violence or aggression. In fact
Yoshinkan Aikido is unique in its effective method of controlling and
minimizing aggressive behavior no matter how large or powerful the
aggressor. For that reason, it has been deemed mandatory training in
Tokyo for all female police officers, and Tokyo’s Riot Police
candidates must attain Shodan (1st degree black belt) status before
qualifying to join the squad.
Many
of our current students have also come from other martial art
disciplines. If you’ve been a student of Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Judo
or Kung Fu, etc., you will discover some obvious benefits to
studying Yoshinkan Aikido as an alternative to, or in addition to,
your current budo training.
So
please, look around our website and don’t hesitate to contact me
with any questions whatsoever.
Yours,

Robert Mustard,
Chief Instructor, Aikido Yoshinkai Burnaby

Inoue Kancho, Chida Dojocho, and Mustard Sensei in Hawaii
March 23-26, 2007
To celebrate the initiation of Yoshinkan Aikido in Kona, Hawaii, Aikido Yoshinkai Hawaii-Koryokan Dojo hosted a series of clinics with these 3 spectacular instructors. For those who made the trip to the Big Island, it was a special privilege to be on the mats with a 9th dan, an 8th dan and a 7th dan. Thank you to Will Howell Sensei for organizing this wonderful event; and congratulations on your promotion to Yondan!
