Sword Seminar @ AYB

February 2004

On February 21, 2004 Aikido Yoshinkai Burnaby was pleased to welcome Ken Moneker Sensei, Rokudan Renshi in iaido.  Moneker Sensei, assisted by his wife Catherine Moneker (Godan) conducted a 3-hour seminar. While the 19 attendees practised some basic movements and two-man katas, the 3 hours just flew by!  It was a treat to experience the essence of iaido through someone as skilled, gracious, and genuine as Moneker Sensei. Given that the movements of aikido are based on the Japanese sword, this seminar will surely prove beneficial to our aikido training. Although Moneker Sensei graciously volunteered his time for this seminar, we presented him with a gift of $400 towards expenses for his spring ’04 trip to Japan. Mustard Sensei and his wife, Carol, hosted a fabulous dinner/soirée afterwards. It was a great day all around and a good time was had by all!
